The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Nepal is an international, non-governmental humanitarian and development organization that has been working in Nepal since 1984 focusing on Sustainable Livelihood, Quality Services and Protection and Social Cohesion.
The Lutheran World Federation Nepal invites applications from all potential Nepali candidates for the following APWSN project position:
Communication Officer: Grade 7, based at Kathmandu with frequent field visits.
Description
Essential job responsibilities
The specific duties and responsibilities of the Communication Officer, but are not limited to, the following:
- Review and update LWF Nepal’s communication and visibility strategies and policies in line with the LWF World Service Geneva, support organizations, and GoN of Nepal in collaboration with LWF Nepal’s management.
- Develop guidelines, plans, and timelines for developing and disseminating LWF Nepal’s communication and visibility materials.
- Prepare and disseminate LWF Nepal’s annual report, event report, and other reports.
- Lead the implementation of communication and visibility tools and mechanisms, such as reports and publication, audio/visual including photos, success stories, and websites including social media such as Twitter, facebook, blog, etc.
- Ensure LWF’s and donors’ visibility requirements and compliances regarding communications.
- Coordinate to document, archive, and disseminate feature stories/human interest stories, innovation, and best practices for profiling knowledge and experiences of LWF Nepal’s program and projects.
- Update LWF Nepal’s website and social media such as Twitter, facebook, blog, etc. periodically.
- Prepare program/project intro, fact sheets, success/case stories, and newsletters.
- Support LWF Nepal’s management and project team to organize and facilitate various events.
- Manage internal communication database and fundraising publication including quality audio and visual documents.
- Maintain good relations and communication with related Nepal government offices, and public and private institutions. Act as a public relations focal person for LWF Nepal.
- Translate office documents into English to Nepali and vice versa.
- Identify how knowledge products can be reformatted (including translation) for different audiences and other communication channels.
- Coordinate for dissemination and delivery of the knowledge products which includes uploading all outputs to the LWF Nepal website/SharePoint or any other officially approved appropriate dissemination techniques including online social media.
- Coordinate with other stakeholders (i.e. government, academia, INGOs, civil society organizations, and research institutions) to share the projects’ knowledge as well as to encourage them to capture and disseminate learning and knowledge related to LWF Nepal’s programmatic areas.
- Collect, structure, and document project/program-related information for internal and external audiences, government and to ensure that publications are regularly posted and accessible.
- Monitor external media and maintain a roster of focal points of key media platforms.
- Lead in supporting the staff in IT-related knowledge and skills.
- Assist the LWF Nepal’s safety and security focal person to ensure safety and security from the organization.
Other roles:
- Create and sustain a work environment of mutual respect where team members strive to achieve excellence.
- Conduct themselves both professionally and personally to contribute to the organization’s humanitarian and development mission.
- Other duties as assigned by his/her supervisor and Country Director or his/her designate.
Safeguarding and accountability
All staff must comply with safeguarding and accountability policies in line with the LWF World Service Geneva. All staff are expected to conduct themselves professionally and respect local laws, customs, and client policies, procedures, and values always and in all in-country venues.
Reporting and supervising
The Communication Officer will report to the Humanitarian Program Coordinator. S/he will work in close collaboration with other staff in the organization.
Location
This position will be based in Kathmandu with frequent field visits.
Duration
Annual contract with the possibility of extension based on performance and LWF Nepal’s future funding level.
Minimum qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass communication, development studies, economics, or any other relevant fields. Master’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in communication in development and humanitarian programs/projects.
- A solid understanding of communications strategies and materials and the program context.
- Experience in communication material design and production process
- Effective verbal and written communication, multi-tasking, organizational, and prioritization skills are necessary.
- Willingness to travel frequently to remote areas.
- Demonstrated skills in preparing fact sheets, presentations, and documentation.
- Good computer and IT skills, including preliminary research and information gathering from the internet, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preparation, and design software (Photoshop, Illustration, InDesign, freehand, Adobe Premier Pro package, etc.) are required.
- Strong written and oral presentation and communication skills in both English and Nepali required, including report development, writing, and editing.
